Our First Archery Weekend

This week we finally got our bows. Endellion's and mine came first, on Tuesday, and we went to the back porch to try them out. It was almost dark already but we just wanted to see how it felt. First we made a makeshift target out of a box, phone books, magazines, and cardboard all put together tightly with Gorilla Tape.

Elli with Her bow:

Elli did very well, it is hard to remember all of the "rules" at once and shoot an arrow without being nervous. It will take time for all of us to make our form perfect.

Drawing back:

Julia caught this shot perfectly:

Then Friday came and we drove out to Bass Pro Shop to get Julia's bow. It takes a long time to get everything set up and sized just right, but it is fun. We left with a whole set-up ready to shoot at 10:00 pm.
Saturday morning I tried to sleep in but could not. I woke up a bit before Julia and flattened out a couple spots in the backyard to shoot from, set up our new target, and threw a blanket over the fence to slow down any wild arrows. I also brought a our patio table down to put our stuff on. By the time I was done Julia had joined me.

And after a shot:
Julia wont let me post pictures of the damage but she is shooting very well and our new target has a lot of holes in it. Here is the view from where we shoot. It will do for now and for keeping form throughout the week, but on the weekends we are going to have to find a safe place with more distance. These modern bows are incredible.
